Working out again!

I feel really good today! A couple of days ago I went to a gym in Manhattan to sign up. Finally, after five months without working out, it’s time again! I’ve been there three times now and my stamina is already back in shape. I will run for one hour every second day, for a couple of weeks to lose some weight, and later I will start lifting some weights so shape my body. I’m really looking forward to see the results, and so is my girlfriend!

What I really like about this gym is that it’s huge and it also has a swimming pool. I’m also writing a paper about it for my oral communication class and I will eventually hold a speech about the importance of working out. This has been a nice weekend so far. Every Friday I have a day off from school. This makes me have a three days long weekend which is nice.

This Friday I went to the school anyway to do all my homework. I really like the library because it gets me motivated to study and they have the books for every class if you need to borrow it while being there. I finished after a few hours and went out to go to the New York Public Library. I stood in line for maybe twenty minutes waiting to register for a library card, but I couldn’t get one since they need a proof of your address.

This kind of annoyed me and since I live in Brooklyn, I didn't want to go back just to find a letter. Luckily my girlfriend showed up and she has a library card. The library didn’t have my book though. We made a search on the computer for the book and found out that Brooklyn Public Library had it, so we travelled there and I could finally pick it up. The reason I needed that book is that it’s for an assignment we have in school. I’m going to write about the man, Cornelius Vanderbilt. He was a very successful businessman and among other things, he raised money to build the Grand Central Terminal here in New York. It’s a really interesting assignment. I love reading about New York and American history. Next week, I have two midterms. There’s one in Spreadsheet and Databases and another one in Accounting.

I feel really comfortable about the first one since I’m very used to computers and Excel. I feel alright about the Accounting too, and I will rehears it in the coming days. Accounting is actually very logical and not that hard, at least for now. I’m not going to say too much about it until I’ve done the test!

A lot to do!

Yesterday I celebrated the weekend by traveling to Brighton Beach in Brooklyn. Me and my girlfriend took a long walk on the beach enjoying the beautiful weather. I also took a lot of pictures with my new camera that I bought two weeks ago. Later that day we had some ice cream and even though it was really cold, it was delicious. I have a lot to do in school this quarter.

The first quarter was for me fairly easy and I didn’t experience it as stressful. Now I have homework almost every day and the accounting takes up a lot of my time. I have a very good professor who enjoys his job though. He actually retired from his last job in 2001 but got bored and is now teaching full time at Berkeley College. He is very understanding and he’s very particular that his students are following him on everything he says. I wouldn’t say that I have trouble understanding accounting but I got a little nervous after hearing other students telling nightmare stories about it.

People think that good accountants are mathematical geniuses, but that’s not true. It has a lot more to do with understanding where money is coming and going. If you understand the terms and have an understanding teacher you will be fine. I actually also contacted Berkeley College’s tutoring center just in case I would need help with understanding it. I went there and got an appointment the same day.

I didn’t want to wait an hour so I booked a new appointment for the next day. I read the chapter in the subway on my way home and I started to understand what it was about. The next day, my teacher helped me out with all my questions but I went to the tutoring center anyway since I had an appointment. I was there for ten minutes and got everything I wasn’t clear about explained to me. I feel confident about this quarter and I think that it will turn out just as good as the first one. 4.0 GPA, that is.
I also booked an appointment at the student advisement center. It’s time to start scheduling for the next quarter. It’s crazy how fast the months are flying by. The appointment is for February and I need to plan my own schedule this quarter. The first quarter you don’t need to do that since the student advisers are helping out new students with that. But after the first quarter, the school expects you to be able to handle it.

I will talk to my friend about it so that we can plan our schedule together. It’s more comfortable to have someone you know in the same class. You meet people from previous quarters in the classes anyway but having a close friend in the same class is preferable.
I’m now planning to buy tickets for an NHL game. I might go and see New York versus Atlanta at Madison Square Garden. I have always wanted to go to one of those games and the time is right now that I have a professional camera. More about that later!

Fun weekend!

This Friday, me and a friend from Berkeley College went to see Bull Riding at Madison Square Garden! It was crazy! It’s a lot more fun to be there and see it than watching it on television. You realize that it’s a very dangerous sport.

I’m getting busier and busier in school and I have some quizzes coming up. Because of the quarter system at Berkeley College you really need to focus in class. Everything is very intense and if you don’t concentrate it’s easy to fall behind. I have always been a very disciplined guy so I have no problem with that. A matter a fact I think it’s perfect because it makes it possible for me to complete my education in three years.

I realized today that my teacher in English Composition 2 is a writer. I really look up to him and he is a very interesting guy. You can tell that he likes his job and he’s very excited about history and New York. He told us a few days ago that we should be happy that we go to school next to 5th avenue, and I can very much agree with him on that. I’m also very excited about New York City and all the monuments here. A lot of people say that America doesn’t have a history. I can’t agree with them though. It doesn't of course go as far back as in Europe. What those people don’t understand though is that the history here is very rich and I personally think that the history here is a lot more interesting than in most of Europe. At least if you look in the last 200 years.

The start of the second quarter

I was in Sweden to celebrate Christmas and got back to New York December 30. Me and my sister celebrated New Years Eve in Times Square and that was awesome!

My school started January 2 and I was excited about it. It was really nice to meet my friends again after a few weeks without them. The first week in school was very calm. We had a few homework assignments to do but it wasn’t anything hard to do.

I have great teachers this quarter and I'm really looking forward to learning more about them. My professor in Communication wrote the book we're using in class, and it makes everything much more fun and interesting. The title of the book is "Fear is Good" I have also realized that this will be a tough quarter since I have two classes involving math, accounting is one of them. I am more of a Marketing guy and I'm not that into math, but I realize that I need to learn accounting especially if I want to start my own business in the future.
